About the Upper St. Clair - Bethel Park Breakfast Rotary Club

In the fall of 2001, The Upper St. Clair/Bethel Park Breakfast Club moved to the beautiful Grand Residence at 45 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair. This is the first move our club has made since we received our charter on September 14, 1988. We still meet on Tuesday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 am. Over these years we have been blessed with the ability to increase our membership as well as our philanthropic and social endeavors.
Our fundraiser, the Annual Chicken Barbeque is still held every year on the last Saturday in September and continues to be a huge undertaking. We were able to raise in this one-day event over $28,000… with months of planning and lots of man (woman)-hours.
Our charitable donations have been made to: SHIM (South Hills Interfaith Ministry), Early Learning Institute, Camp Kon-O-Kwee (a YMCA camp), Make-A-Wish, the Rotary Foundation, Camp AIM, Southwinds, the Appalachia Work Camp, Washington City Mission, East Liberty Health Ministries, New York City disaster relief, the support of a Rotary exchange student, and, to the site of our Chicken Barbeque, Westminster Church. We have committed contributions to Watchful Shepherd, Books for Africa and Canine Companions.
When the need has arisen, we have helped private families in our two communities who have had to deal with life threatening illnesses and who have needed our financial and emotional support. Our work has not stopped at the monetary gifts, as we have historically been a very active club. Throughout the year, we meet socially for our progressive dinner, Valentine’s Day dinner, a gift-wrapping party held during the holiday season where we prepare for the Early Learning Institute’s Holiday party that we sponsor. Many of our talented members have spent weekends at Camp Kon-O-Kwee staining siding on a large lodge, building two cabins and working on audio stations for a nature trail designed for children with special needs.
We are able to meet socially while preparing for the two parties for the children at the Early Learning Institute at Christmas and Easter. This year we will tackle our first attempt at sponsoring a 5K race for the benefit of SHIM. We have a booth at both community days in Bethel Park and in Upper St. Clair. We have joined with other clubs in the area to work in and sponsor a Bethel Park Police kiosk, food drives, roadside clean-ups and park beautification activities. Our scholarship program to help high school students attend the Ethics Symposium and Youth Leadership Conference continues every year, along with four $500 Service Above Self Awards at Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park High Schools.
